As an AI Data Governance Consultant at VI, you'll guide clients through hard data security questions in AI initiatives — shaping governance frameworks with real engineering expertise.

Job description

We're looking for an AI Data Governance Consultant who can guide our clients when AI initiatives raise hard questions about data warehousing and security.

This is an engineering-grounded, security-first role. Our ideal candidate will work together with clients to create the governance framework, lay out how and where data should flow through different areas of their architecture, and guide the client on an ongoing basis as the implementation moves along.

What you will do:

  • Act as a trusted adviser on data security and governance for AI initiatives across client engagements — the person clients call when a risk question comes up.

  • Assess and advise on data security risks tied to AI systems: data exposure, access control, model/data lineage, third-party and cloud data handling, and secure data architecture — with security as the primary lens.

  • Bring a data engineering perspective to governance work, grounded in real data warehousing and data platform experience.

  • Guide clients and their stakeholders through emerging AI-related risks in plain, actionable terms — translating technical risk into decisions leadership can act on.

  • Actively participate in and help close new business: join sales conversations, build client trust pre-contract, and convert relationships into signed engagements.

  • Build visible, ongoing trust with clients — it's clearly observable that clients trust you and your input.

Job requirements

What we expect:

  • Be consistently sought after and organically pulled into new discussions, either by our own account teams or by clients directly.

  • Shape client and team discussions into new business for VI across more than one client account.

  • Contribute measurably to closing 1–2 new client engagements within your first 6 months.

  • Experience consulting and leading engagements independently, while aligning with the strategy set by the account team.

  • Data engineering background, with hands-on experience leading data warehousing initiatives.

  • Deep understanding of data security practices as they apply to AI systems: access management, data classification, secure architecture, cloud data security, and risk assessment.

  • Comfort pitching ideas and closing deals as part of a wider account team.

  • Excellent communication skills in English (candidates based in Portugal), or in both English and German (candidates based in Germany or Austria).

  • Some exposure to legal and compliance work (nice to have).

  • Experience across multiple industries or regulatory environments in the DACH or EU market (nice to have).

  • A proven network or reputation in the AI governance/security space (nice to have).

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, either as an engineer or as an architect (nice to have).
